Trusting Christ As Savior

To experience the peace you seek, eternal life will bring you the only peace that endures.

The Bible is clear about how to prepare for our eternal future. In fact, to become a Christian and understand your eternal destiny without question is as simple as A-B-C.

A

Admit you are not ready to go to heaven when you die because you are a sinner. That’s what the Bible says about all of us.

"None is righteous, no, not one" (Romans. 3:10).

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

I was born a sinner, I became a sinner the first time I personally disobeyed God, and I will die a sinner. I have to freely admit that in order to be able to experience God’s forgiveness and grace.

B

Believe that although you are a sinner, Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for your sin and save you from its punishment. When the jail keeper at Philippi asked the apostle Paul what he needed to do to be saved, Paul responded,

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts. 16:31).

Salvation is not a matter of turning over a new leaf or trying to live so your good works outweigh your bad works. It is not living a moral life and doing good. Salvation is the result of the loving act of God whereby he sent his Son Jesus to die on Calvary's cross specifically to pay the penalty for our sin, which is death.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

That's God's Word, and if you believe that Jesus' death alone can forgive the penalty of your sin, you can face death with hope.

C

Confess to God that you believe what his Word says: that you are a sinner, and you believe Jesus died to save you from your sin and its penalty. Admit you are lost without Jesus, without hope. Believe Jesus can give you the hope you need because he died for your sin. And confess to God that you are trusting Christ as your savior and want him to save you. To the Romans, the apostle Paul wrote,

"Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved"(Romans. 10:9-10).

That’s really all there is to it. When you trust Jesus Christ as your personal savior from sin and death, the penalty for sin, you can live life and even face death with new confidence and hope.
